Flute Competition Participant Guidelines
The North Idaho Flute Festival Competition is open to participants of all ages, please see division details below for eligibility. Divisions are open to any persons whose principal livelihood is obtained from non-musical work.
All selections must not exceed a 12 minute performance time.
Participants must utilize legally obtained music scores. It is the responsibility of teachers and students to be sure their music is in compliance with copyright laws. If you have questions about using scores downloaded from sources such as IMSLP, please refer to the ASCAP Licensing web page:https://www.ascap.com/help/ascap-licensing.
Participants must give a copy of their music to the judge when they perform, opened at the proper page with measures numbered.
If accompaniment is needed, participants must arrange with a pianist. We will provide local pianist contact information upon request. For these accompanists, music must be provided at least 2 weeks prior to competition. Students are responsible for arranging rehearsal time and payment directly with the accompanist.
Flute Masterclass Participant Guidelines
The North Idaho Flute Festival Masterclass is open to participants of all ages and levels. There are no divisions for this element of the Flute Festival.

**A musician participating in both the competition and the masterclass may choose to perform two separate pieces. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the competition and the masterclass. A musician may register for either element, but the registration fee remains the same.

Beginner/Novice Division: Levels 1-3
Royal Conservatory Grade 1-4, Guildhall Grade 1-3 UK, ABRSM Grade 1-2, Flute World Level One
Award: First Place Certificate, Etude or Exercise Book
Novice Division: Levels 4-5
Royal Conservatory Grade 5-7, Guildhall Grade 4-5 UK, ABRSM Grade 3-5, Flute World Level Two+
Award: First Place Certificate, Etude or Exercise Book
Intermediate Division: Levels 6-7
Royal Conservatory Grade 8-8+, Guildhall Grade 6-7 UK, ABRSM Grade 5-6, Flute World Level Two+ to Three-
Award: First Place Certificate, Etude or Exercise Book
Advanced Intermediate Division: Level 8
Royal Conservatory Grade 9, Guildhall Grade 7-8 UK, ABRSM Grade 7, Flute World Level Three
Award: First Place Certificate, Flute Accessory
Advanced Division: Level 9+
Royal Conservatory Grade 10, Guildhall Grade 8 UK, ABRSM Grade 8, Flute World Level Three+ to Four
Award: First Place Certificate, Flute Accessory,
Special judge's award: Invitation to perform with North Idaho Philharmonia
